When the sun is shining and the temperature rises, there’s nothing quite like a refreshing drink to help you cool down and stay hydrated. Here, I’m sharing five super simple and delicious summer drink recipes you can whip up at home. Whether you’re lounging in the garden, hosting a barbecue or just looking for a way to beat the heat, these drinks are easy to make, packed with flavour, and a healthier alternative to shop-bought options.
Watermelon and Lime Slushie
Probably my favourite. Works perfectly for any special or non-special occasion. My kids love it too. I tend to remove most of the seeds by cutting the melon to 2-inch pieces and leave the rest. No need to add any sweetener, and it’s very refreshing.
Ingredients for 2 portions
2 cups of diced watermelon, deseeded best you can
1 cup of ice cubes
juice of one lime
Put everything in a blender – enjoy!
Apple and Cucumber Refresher
I was a little skeptic first, about cucumber as a drink ingredient, but it works great with apple and mint! If you prefer it sweeter, it works better with a little maple syrup than with honey, but if your apple is sweet enough, there’s no need to sweeten it further.
Ingredients for 2 portions
1 whole green apple (granny smith is best)
2.5 inch (7cm) piece of cucumber
1/2 cup of ice
5 medium mint leaves
Put everything in a blender – enjoy!
Iced Latte
Easy, no special ingredient is needed. I used brewed decaf and let it cool down, and plant based milk. No need for any fancy syrup. Sweeten it with a little honey – it works a treat.
Nectarine and Lime Infusion
Ingredients for 2 portions
300ml of cold coffee
300ml of frothed milk
a handful of ice cubes
cinnamon/cocoa powder
Put the ice cubes in the cups first, then pour on the cold coffee, followed by the frothed milk. Sprinkle with cinnamon and/ or cocoa powder.
Subtle, summery slurp for a hot day. When you just need water with a little extra. Can be made in a water bottle to go.
Ingredients for 2 portions
2 nectarines, stones removed, sliced
2 limes, sliced
1/2 cup of ice cubes
600ml of fizzy water
Start with putting the fruit and ice cubes in the glasses, then pour the water over. Use a spoon to squeeze some flavour out of the fruits.
Ginger and Mint Blended Lemonade
Next level lemonade.
Super aromatic, super refreshing, full of flavour and vitamin C, and great for after a meal.
Ingredients for 2 portions
1 whole lemon, pealed, sliced, pips removed.
1 whole lime, pealed, sliced, pips removed.
1 inch piece of ginger, pealed.
5 mint leaves
1 cup of ice
2 tbsp honey
500ml fizzy water
Throw everything in the blender, mix until smooth, enjoy!
