What do nutritionists do?

What do

nutritionists do?

Nutritionists have an accredited university degree (at least a BSc). We are registered with the Association for Nutrition, the organisation that protects you by overlooking us, nutritionists to make sure that we are adequately qualified and comply with their rigorous professional and ethical standards. AfN also monitors our continuous professional development to ensure that our knowledge is up-to-date, and we work based on the latest scientific findings.

We are trained to understand how the food that we eat influences our bodily systems (e.g. digestive, cardiovascular, endocrine or nervous system), and what changes should be made in your diet and lifestyle to make these systems work optimally so you can feel happy and healthy.

We do this through working with you closely to find out about your individual needs and formulating a personalised plan for you to achieve your goals.

Meet your Nutritionist

Hi, I’m Kat, your nutritionist at WholeSoMe Nutrition. I graduated in 2024 from Northumbria University Newcastle (UK) and I hold a first class BSc(Hons) degree in Human Nutrition.
I’m very proud to share with you, that upon graduation I have received a prize for the “Best Undergraduate Academic Performance on a Biology, Food and Nutrition Programme”. This prize is awarded for the best result determined by the highest classification average.

By the time I started university, nutrition had already been my passion for 8 years. During this time I have read and listened to a vast number of articles, blogs, books, podcasts, Ted talks and research around and about health and diets. I even completed a Nutritional Therapist course in 2015, which just made me crave a more in-depth knowledge. So as soon as my motherly duties allowed, I applied to Northumbria.
During my final year of university I was lucky enough to be trusted by people just like you, and transformed their lives through small, manageable changes that made a huge difference in how they feel. During our work together, I gained valuable experience in supporting journeys through weight loss, preparing for menopause, nutritional deficiency, food sensitivity, and type 2 diabetes.

In 2024 my dream to become a consultant nutritionist finally became reality. Supporting people to become a healthier and happier version of themselves, is extremely rewarding and gives me a lot of joy.

Areas of support

My main interest is women’s health because of the complexity of the influence of our hormones. Just fascinating. So this is what my main programme focuses on.

For us, women, whatever the issue might be, it is likely that our hormones have something to do with it. The symptom list of hormone imbalance includes the following, but it’s not exhaustive, so do have a look at the details by clicking on the button below.

  • PMS
  • PCOS
  • difficult weight management
  • appetite, sleep, mood, skin issues
  • tiredness
  • digestive issues
  • etc.

I equally love working with clients with other health related issues in a specialised 10-week programme, or teaching them about how to eat for their individual needs to thrive in  group sessions. I speak from own experience, as well as based on previous success stories. Get in touch if you have concerns in the following areas.

  • Weight loss
  • IBS
  • Food intolerance
  • Perimenopause
  • Digestion
  • Blood sugar imbalance
  • Lifestyle change
  • Weak immune system
  • Tiredness and fatigue
  • Low mood
  • Bad sleep
  • Skin problems

It’s great if you know what you are doing but you want to know your current nutrient levels. You can always add on a consultation session if you would like advice on supplements or dietary changes.

Whichever option you choose, the consultations are always friendly and relaxed and the programme is fully tailored to your own individual needs and pace.

How does it work?

We start with an informal chat about what you need and how I can help you. Then we do a thorough assessment before I design your programme. Here’s the basic process, roughly:

  • Assessment
  • Food diary and full nutritional analysis
  • Discussing your results and goals
  • Your detailed and tailored Care Plan
  • Follow-up meetings and support
